2026 Anambra Local Govt Elections to Hold August 29 — ANSIEC

The Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) has officially announced that elections into the offices of Local Government Council Chairmen and Ward Councillors across the 21 local government areas of the state will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026.
This was contained in a notice of election issued on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, by the Chairman of the Commission, Hon. Genevieve C. Osakwe, Esq. (JP) at the ANSIEC Headquarters in Awka, the state capital.
According to the notice exclusively obtained by this reporter, all registered political parties are expected to collect their nomination forms from the Commission’s Headquarters located at No. 14/16, Km 8, Awka—Onitsha Expressway, Awka.
The Commission further stated that the timetable and schedule of activities for the election will be made available for collection at the Commission’s Headquarters in Awka beginning Friday, November 28, 2025.
According to the ANSIEC, the exercise is in alignment with Act, 2022, and Section 23 of the Anambra State Electoral Law, 2024, which also empowers the Commission to issue notices of election and also conduct same
The ANSIEC Chairperson, Hon. Osakwe, further urged political parties, stakeholders, and the general public to take note of the dates and ensure full compliance with all electoral guidelines as preparations begin for the polls.
