NES Inaugurates New Chapter in Anambra, As  Dr. Ebele Nwokoye Emerges Chairperson

The Nigerian Economic Society (NES) has inaugurated a new chapter of the society in Anambra State with the Head, Department of Economics, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Dr Ebele Nwokoye as Chairperson.

The ceremony which took place at Adam Smith Hall, Alhaji Ishaku Umar Building at the Economics Department  NAU Awka, on Thursday 30th day of September 2021 was remarkable. 

Inaugurating the Anambra state chapter,  the President Nigerian Economic Society, Prof Sarah Anyanwu commended lecturers in the department of Economics NAU for the great heights, they  attained in the recent appraisal especially in research and publication.

 She also commended  Mr Nonso Ekesiobi of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU)for outstanding inputs in Research.

The President who was represented by the NES council member and also Dean Faculty of Social Sciences, NAU, Prof Uche C.C Nwogwugwu noted that the society was brought home to highlight the importance of Economists in the society insisting that it has since been sidelined.

Nwogwugwu also called on all Economists in Anambra to come out in full force and join the Chapter, stating that membership is not restricted to those in Academic environment. 

He also advised the chapter to portray the Motto of the State which is “Light of the Nation”.

Prof Nwogwugwu, charged them to ensure that Economists in Anambra State are brought under one Umbrella.

The new Chapter chairperson, Dr .Ebele S. Nwokoye in her acceptance speech thanked the NES President for her laudable initiatives while she appreciated selfless efforts exhibited towards the inauguration of the new chapter.

Dr Nwokoye assured to take the chapter to greater heights through expanding the frontiers of NES activities; Setting up the Anambra State Sectariat; Circulation of it’s flagship publication which is the NJESS; Mobilization of members for the society's activities; Coordination of inductions of new graduates members from the state for the national body and so many other responsibilities expected of the chapter.

She appreciated the selflessness exhibited by the new executives.

Her words: “ I am very glad that we are taking a step in the right direction so that those who are not in the Academia can participate effectively in the affairs of the NES in the state". 

In a closing remark, the interim chapter Secretary,  Mr Nonso Ekesiobi reemphasized on the need for all graduates of Economics in the tertiary institutions in the state to join the society ,noting that they have much to benefit from being a member.

The chapter is domiciled at Department of Economics, Nnamdi Azikiwe University (NAU), Awka .

Dr Ebele Nwokoye emerged as Chairperson; - Dr Cajetan Aniebo Co-chair ;  Mr Nonso Ekesiobi Secretary ; ) Dr Ann Ike Public Relation Officer (PRO) and Mr Chibuzo Nwabue as the State Liaison Officer. 

The highpoint of the event was cutting of the inaugural Cake and donation of cash  by the Members.
